The Meeting of Motorcycle Man and Me.

No one ever believes this story, they think we are making it up.  Nope, we're not that creative.

Near the end of June in 1998, I found myself swearing off men.  I was done.  Obviously, I had some bad relationships and the rest were down right horrid and the things nightmares are made of.  My roommate was dating a girl that lived about 45 minutes away from us and he was having bad car trouble.  Since his car was at the mechanics I told him I'd drive him to her house and kill a few hours at the mall if he bought my dinner.  He agreed so off we went.  I was driving this piece of shit car.  It didn't start out that way, but the engine leaked oil like a sieve and was going to cost more than the car was worth to fix.  So I dumped oil in every other day.  Luckily, this was prior to gas being $3.55 a gallon so this wasn't that big of problem.  I dropped him off at his girlfriend, spent a few hours at the mall, and we went to Friday's for dinner (not my fave, but not a lot of choices).  We headed back home.  It was HOT and I had no air.  My roomie spent most of the drive dozing in the passenger seat.  I like to drive fast and there was a nice line of cars going well over the speed limit so I moved into the fast lane and pressed the gas down as far as it would go.  I didn't know there was 'cut out' sensor on my car.  At exactly 100 mph the car computer stopped gas going to the engine and I had to get the hell out of the way of the teal Ford truck bearing down on my rear end.
Ford truck guy passed me like I was 85 years old.  It was so embarrassing.  Stupid crappy car.  So Ford truck guy with out of state license plates was cute and slowed down a little bit so I could keep up with him.  We drove close to each other for about 5-6 miles.  We were getting close to my exit and Ford truck guy kept motioning me to call him.  I had no cell phone.  Give me a break, I didn't own a computer either, it was 1998.  So Ford truck guy speeds past me.  Now I'm thinking he's taking off and heading back to his home state.  Not so.  Ford truck guy gets in front of me and starts slowing down.  He pulls off to the shoulder of the road and I pulled in behind him.  Now, before I get the lectures, I would NEVER had pulled over without a large guy in the car to protect me or a weapon to protect myself.  Lucky, for me I had both :)  Ford truck guy gets out of his truck and comes over to my car.  We introduce ourselves and start talking.  He ask how old I am (yep, I look like a little kid-heck I still get carded to buy alcohol sometimes) and I answer 21 (true).  I asked him how old he is and he said 20.  I called him a liar and asked to see his license.  This served 2 purposes.  One, I could see if he lied about his name (he didn't) and two, I could see his date of birth (also told the truth).  He got my number and we all left.  I didn't really think he'd call, but I wanted him to. Not a bad way to spend July 4th weekend!
Guess what, he did!!  Within the next few days he called and made plans to come to my town with a friend of his.  I think he wanted his friend to check me out.  They got to my house around 8pm and stayed until 9am.  We had a great time, talking and hanging out.  I found out he raced motorcycles (hence the name Motorcycle Man)
He called me a few days later and said he had a race he was going to in Michigan.  We met halfway and had lunch.  It was a short trip since I had to work that night.  He kept calling me every few days and came up a weekend to stay.  The relationship was definitely moving fast, but it seemed like we'd known each other for a long time.
The next to last weekend in July, he had a race in Memphis, TN.  He invited me and I went with him.  It was a different experience, but I enjoyed it.  The people were very friendly.  We got back to his town and he drove me home.  He had to work so we made plans to go the beach the next weekend.
The next weekend was right before his 21st birthday and we headed to the beach on Friday.  He had some friends coming the next day so we decided to make the most of our only day there alone.  We cruised, had dinner, and decided to end the night with a moonlight walk on the beach.  I know you can tell what's coming next.  Motorcycle Man popped the question!  He asked me to marry him!  I said YES!  I know it sounds cheesy, but we really were meant to be together.  I moved to his hometown the next week.  We found a cute little house to rent and got married 6 weeks after we met.  We are going strong and will celebrate our 13th anniversary this August.
It's never been and I hope it never is a dull moment!
